Congratulations to Averi LaPata '24 who was honored with the Widener University Leadership Award which includes acceptance into the Apogee Leadership Scholars Program. Widener Apogee Scholars receive a $20,000 scholarship over four years, and access to four years of leadership programming, including a Widener Leadership Certificate. This award is given to students who have demonstrated leadership by standing up for what is right, finding a way to address a wrong, or making a significant difference in their schools or communities. Exactly one year ago this weekend, CCHS celebrated 100 Years of Musical Theatre with an amazing Showcase and Gala. The event brought together alumni performers and current CCHS students. The evening was a great event and the Showcase was top notch entertainment; walking you through 100 Years of Musical Theatre at CCHS and how the show has always gone on even through wars, fires and global pandemics. The CCHS Shakespeare Festival on April 26 was a great success with over 30 students participating and many more faculty, staff and students attending to watch the performances. Thank you to these talented young thespians, their leader, Mrs. Werner-Kaiser, and alumni Aidan McDonald '17 and Raelyn Menon '17 for their mentorship.

On April 25 Campus Ministry was a proud shop vendor at the 5th Annual Cathedral Kitchen Operation Mothers & Fathers Day shopping event. Jack Baylouny and Caroline O'Callaghan were honored as Camden Catholic's 2023 Olympic Conference Scholar-Athletes on Tuesday. Both seniors are among the top-ranked students in the graduating class, all the while also leading on the field, mat, and court. Jack is a key member of both the wrestling and lacrosse teams while Carly is a three-sport athlete for the Irish, playing soccer, basketball and lacrosse. Jack plans to attend Clemson University and Carly will attend Syracuse University. Congratulations Jack and Carly!

Did you know...America's first documented Baby Boomer is CCHS graduate Kathleen Casey-Kirschling '64! Mrs. Casey-Kirschling has been featured in various media outlets and was included in the recently published book: The Last Days of the Baby Boom and the Future of Power in America. She was kind enough to hand deliver the book to us for the Hocker Information Commons with a personal inscription.
Bishop Dennis Sullivan has appointed Mr. Rory J. Sweeney as the next president of Camden Catholic High School, effective July 1, 2023. Mr. Sweeney brings strong leadership qualities and a reputation as a distinguished Catholic educator and administrator as the new President of Camden Catholic. He is a man of deep faith who will serve as an excellent role model for the Camden Catholic traditions of Honor, Faith, and Loyalty. The Camden Catholic community will be well served by Mr. Sweeney’s experience across many Catholic School settings.

Camden Catholic is pleased to announce that we have selected Coach Seamus O’Connor as the new Camden Catholic Boys Soccer Head Coach. Coach O’Connor is a seasoned soccer professional who has coached both mens and womens teams at various skill levels, including the Temple University Women’s Soccer assistant coach from 2011-2013 before being named head coach in 2013.
Coach O’Connor’s Temple coaching highlights include: 2014 record of 11-8-1, the team's first season with 10+ wins since 2001; 2015 record of 12-7-1, and a mark of 4-4-1 in the American Athletic Conference. This was the first back-to-back 10-win seasons ever in Temple women’s soccer history, and they also finished .500 in conference play for the first time since 1995.
Before arriving at Temple in 2011, Coach O'Connor served in multiple capacities in the soccer programs at Chestnut Hill College, starting in 2007. He first coached the men's team before acting as Director of Soccer and coaching both teams for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In 2010 he chose to exclusively coach the women's program. In his second season coaching the women, O'Connor led the Griffins to their first postseason appearance as a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II. He was recognized with the CACC Coach of the Year Award at season's end. In 2010 the team was ranked #8 in the NSCAA East Region and they qualified for a second postseason appearance in a row.
He has also held head coaching positions at St. Joe’s Hammonton, Immaculata University, Alvernia University and PDA South Youth Soccer Club.
Coach O'Connor graduated from Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland in 1997 where he was the starting goalkeeper for three seasons. While in college, he trained with League of Ireland clubs Athlone Town and Longford Town. His soccer education includes a Football Association of Ireland (FAI) Coaching License, FAI Goalkeeping License, National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National License, NSCAA Level 2 Goalkeeping License. He is a native of Galway, Ireland, resides in Medford, N.J., with his wife, Alexandra, son, Shay, and daughter, Annabridget.
CCHS is proud to announce Wayne Gilliam II '10 as our new Head Football Coach! Coach Gilliam was most recently the defensive backs and wide receiver coach at Paul VI High School. Since the 2021 season, Coach Gilliam helped evolve the Paul VI defense by changing schemes and coverages, which led to a 20 interception season and allowing 176 points that season. He also led the defense to only allow 134 points on the season in 2022.
Coach Gilliam graduated with a BS in Business Administration and Sports Management from Widener University and earned his Master’s in Education Administration from Grand Canyon University. He works as the Director of Operations at the High Road School in Philadelphia.
